Cleaning is essential to protect our home and work. We usually relate cleanness to being healthy as most cleaning products take away dirt and grime. Did you know that instead, they leave behind chemical residues that harm us and the environment?

We are all at risk. The most common method of exposure is through the skin and respiratory system.

Most of us don’t have time to do research on our cleaning products, nor do the companies make it easy to find this information with indecipherable ingredient labeling.

So why on earth do we still buy them?! I know we are all too busy to fuss around with complicated cleaning recipes so below you will find four simple, easy-to-make, and non-toxic cleaning recipes for your windows, dishwasher, disinfecting, and all purpose cleaning. Cleaning has never been safer and more effective.

Enjoy!

1. Window cleaner: 500 mL water, 30mL vinegar, few drops of essential oil (optional) – Combine ingredients in spray bottle and use as needed. *Note: If you have always used commercial window cleaners, add a couple drops of Castille soap the first time you clean to remove the chemical residue.

2. Dishwasher soap: 250mL borax, 250mL washing soda, 10-15 drops of essential oil. *Note: Increase the amount of washing soda if your water is hard. Washing soda can be found in the laundry aisle.

3. Disinfectant: 10mL borax, 60mL vinegar, 1mL (1/4 tsp) of Castille soap, 10-15 drops of lavendar essential oil, 750mL hot water.

4. All purpose cleaner: 5mL borax, 125mL vinegar, 2 liters of water.
